ICT in science

Hey again.. one interesting question which come into my mind actually as a student who is taking teaching course is how do we make teaching and learning science interesting and meaningful?

Well let me share some friends’ past experience with all of you which some of you might experiences the same situation and maybe some of you might experience different situation. During his primary school level, he DOES NOT like science very much. why? These are some of the reasons:

1. Do not understand what the topic is all about
2. learning base on reading the book only
3. Learning base on doing the exercise given from the workbook
4. No practical acitvity
5. All informations are given by the teachers
6. The students do not have the ooportunity to learn the topic by themselves
7. Always in the classroom environment

So what can we conclude here?

Teaching science to the children does not mean finishing the syllabus or for the exams only, however, inorder to make the students understand and have the idea of what science is, teacher has to teach science in interesting and meaningful ways. Since science are related to our lives on earth in our everyday life, children might have lots of question regarding science that teahcers have to prepare themselves in answering their questions.

From the websites, nowadays there are lots of useful resources which we could share among ourselves in our teaching and learning. We don’t have to rely on 1 specific teaching or learning style only, for which there is no such thing as ‘1 specific way of teaching n learning’. From what i have learned before, teacher could use several of teaching strategies in their teaching to make the lesson more interesting and alive. 

Before we implement certain strategies, we have to know what topic that we are going to teach and the nature of our students so that both the teacher and students will benefit from the teaching and learning process. Some of the Teaching and Learning Strategies that might be interesting are:

1. Debate
2. Demonstration (example of Demonstration strategy in Science done by my colleague, wannah http://wannah.wordpress.com/)
3. Quiz
4. Rhyme
5. Drama
6. Song
7. Interactive board (ACTIVstudio)
8. Games
9. Cooperative learning
10. Round Table etc..

That’s it 10 of teaching and learning strategies that i can come up right now, please share if you have another..:)
